That’s my only worry, right now. Despite the recent international attention that CLC has received with their girl crush singles, their idol career has yet to kick off. This is because 1) Girl Crush concepts are still a hit or miss with the Korean audience and the domestic market is just as important as the foreign market, and 2) CUBE doesn’t seem to know what to do with CLC’s newfound popularity. And now, here they are putting out a new girl group with a similar concept. Even if they are under the same company, they will surely be competing with each other to become the forefront of CUBE’s new lineup of female idols. But this new girl group has already been planned for a while, though. Their debut has been long overdue. It was inevitable. They have the potential of doing well, but the future does not bode well for CLC. To be fair, CLC is already into their 3rd year. That’s close to half the lifespan of a typical girl group and they have yet to win a single music show. From a business perspective, it’s only natural that they would start putting extra effort and resources on new content elsewhere given their situation.
Putting that aside, I actually really liked this debut. This is coming from someone who isn’t really into girl crush concepts. Even girl groups like Blackpink has failed to make me a fan. Although, with Blackpink, it’s more about me not really liking that YG style and sound that is present across all their artists. But this here is right up my alley, for whatever reason. Just my personal preference and all.
To be honest the styling of CLC put me off trying to listen to their songs. But the Black Dress photos got me interested and now I’m a full fan including watching Prosusorn. I hope they continue for a long time with more adult styling and this group can focus on the young BlackPink wannabes
Yea, I’ve always had an on-and-off relationship with CLC. I want to like them, but something about their songs and the way CUBE is presenting them is putting me off more often than not. Black Dress, however, is where I finally thought they got everything right. It retained their girl crush qualities from their past release, and they brought it up a notch. But one of the best parts about it was definitely in the visual department. The new outfits and theme gave them a more mature, dominating, and bad-ass look. It just felt really natural on them. The Hobgoblin look, on the otherhand, gave me this “tryhard”, “bad-ass female wannabe” vibe. I feel this way with most girl crush groups and it just doesn’t fly with me.

I didn’t like the song, It feels too ‘plain’ except for the chorus and the rap, I saw the showcase and ‘Maze’ in my opinion was a better option for debut or at least as a secondary mv. The group is visually stunning tho.
